European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity to discuss its 2007 work plan
Peterborough, UK, 6 - 8 November 2006

The Management Committee of the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity (ETC/BD) was hosted by the UK's Joint Nature Conservation Committee on 6 to 8 November. During this meeting they looked at progress in this year's work and spent most of the time discussing the plans for next year. As for this year's work ECNC received special compliments from the core team for the work they have done on collecting information from the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asian region and South-eastern Europe for the Belgrade assessment report, which they felt was an extremely difficult task.

For next year much of the EEA's biodiversity work will be focused on SEBI2010 and on initial preparation of a European Ecosystem Assessment that the EEA wants to produce by 2012.

The chair of the Management Committee, Dr Jan Plesnik, stepped down after two years of service. ECNC's Ben Delbaere was elected to chair the MC as of January 2007.

Together with 8 other partners ECNC is part of the consortium of this ETC/BD, which is a component of the European Environment Agency. Every year ECNC carries out part of of the ETC/BD work plan. They also have a staff member seconded to the core team, based at the Natural History Museum in Paris. All consortium partners are represented in the Management Committee (MC), which meets twice per year.

Most of the meeting was held in the beautiful premises around Rutland Water.
