3-4 July 2007, Kiev, Ukraine
More than 50 scientists and researchers met for a two day workshop in Kiev as part of the ECNC – coordinated project: ‘Supporting public involvement in building capacity for Ukrainian biodiversity monitoring’. It was the first time that people active in biodiversity monitoring in the Ukraine had come together to: hear about the project; to listen to a series of excellent presentations about current progress in the field; and, in some cases, to meet each other for the first time.
‘Biodiversity monitoring in Ukraine: current status and perspectives’ was organized by Dr Vasiliy Kostyushin of the State Institute of Zoology, who leads for the project in the Ukraine. The delegates made significant progress through a series of active discussion sessions where they identified issues and barriers to change began to form objectives for the future and agreed on the need for a coordinated strategy for monitoring biodiversity across their country.
